Chelsea signed experience Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva ahead of the 2020/21 campaign to help fix their leaky defence and Arsenal have the opportunity to strike a similar deal to their London rivals.
Silva was out of contract in the French capital and decided to test his hand in the Premier League.
There were doubts over whether a 35-year-old could adjust to the pace of the English top flight.
A few early wobbles aside, the Brazilian has passed the test with flying colours and stands as an example for other clubs who want to snap up a bargain.
Arsenal have the opportunity to do just so this summer, with a slightly younger model.
Bayern Munich are set to release 32-year-old Jerome Boateng at the end of the season and he could be the answer to all of Mikel Arteta’s defensive concerns.

The Bundesliga club’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed Boateng’s impending departure.
“That was a joint decision of the club’s management and the coach was also involved in it,” he said.
“I explained it to Jerome, and he was very understanding.”
Boateng is a much lesser gamble than Silva was as he has previous experience of playing in the Premier League.

The German international made 16 appearances for Manchester City before joining Munich in 2011.
He has since gone on to win eight Bundesliga titles and two Champions Leagues during his time at the Allianz Arena.
However, Arsenal are unlikely to get a free run at Boateng as Chelsea have also been linked with the defender.
Silva is out of contract at Stamford Bridge this summer and it is yet to be seen if he will be offered an extension.
New manager Thomas Tuchel is the man who decided that Silva was not wanted when he was in charge of PSG.
And if he makes the same decision at Chelsea then he may eye Boateng as an alternative.
