Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta urged to loan out three "gifted" stars in January

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been urged to loan out three of his "gifted" stars in January in order to gain them more first-team experience.

Arteta has shown his willingness to provide chances to the club's promising academy players since his appointment, using them largely in cup competitions.

Those opportunities are likely to diminish over the back half of the season, however, with trickier fixtures to come in the Europa League.

And former Gunners forward Kevin Campbell feels Joe Willock, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah should all be allowed to spend the remainder of the campaign elsewhere to help develop their talents.

"Some of these very gifted, talent youngsters have to play regular football,” Campbell told Football Insider. "Once they play regular football they will be much better players when they come back at Arsenal.

"Being a bit-part player is one thing but regular games, regular starts makes a massive difference to the psyche of the player.

"I’m told Reiss Nelson, possibly Joe Willock, may be going out on loan in January. It would be really good for their careers."

Nelson, 21, has been loaned out before, having enjoyed a successful spell at Hoffenheim in the 2018/19 season, though rejected the chance of another temporary spell elsewhere in this campaign.

So far this season he has made just seven appearances in all competitions, only two of which have been in the Premier League, both as a substitute.

Meanwhile Willock, 21, has seen a bit more action than his teammate, featuring in a total of 13 games since the season began, though has never had the benefit of regular minutes.

Out of the trio it is Nketiah, 21, who has played the most often, with 20 appearances under his belt this season, though just three of his 12 Premier League displays have been as a starter.

Where should the trio go if sent out on loan? Have your say below.

"I think Nketiah needs a season under his belt playing regular football," Campbell added. "It is one thing coming in now and again at Arsenal but you never become seasoned that way.

"When you play week in, week out you learn so much more.

"Once he learns his trade has will be a different player because he knows where the goal is."
