Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will only loan out Marquinhos in January if he can sign another winger, according to reports. Arsenal wanted to bring in an established winger in the summer but were unable to get a deal over the line late on in the window.

Marquinhos was one of the first players through the door at the Emirates in the summer. The 19-year-old joined from Brazilian outfit Sao Paulo for a fee of around £3million.

It was originally expected he would be loaned out for the entirety of his first season in England. However, manager Arteta decided to keep him around the club until January at least.

Marquinhos scored on his debut in the 2-1 Europa League win at FC Zurich last Thursday. But The Sun says he could still be loaned out in the winter window.

Though that will only happen if Arsenal land one of their top winger targets. Wolves star Pedro Neto was high on the wishlist for Arteta in the summer but his price tag was too much for the Gunners.

Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk was also linked with a move to the Emirates. The 21-year-old Ukraine international admitted last week it would be hard to turn down Arsenal.

Mudryk told CBS Sports: “Yes [I do dream of the Premier League]. I think every guy dreams about the Premier League.

“It’s hard to say but Arsenal is a very good team with a very good coach. I like the way they play. Yes [it would be hard to say no] from my side, I can’t say no but the transfer is not only my decision and my word.

“In winter we will see.  There was a lot of discussion about the transfer and the collapse (of a deal) and who wants me but its normal. Now I’m in Shakhtar and I want to play in this team.

“I love this team and I love every guy in this team. Shakhtar for me it is now my home but for me it is very important that all my thoughts are only about Shakhtar but in the winter (window) we will see.”

Arteta has been impressed with what he has seen of Marquinhos so far. The teenager scored three goals in three matches for the under-21 side before coming into the match day squad for the last three Premier League games.

He is likely to be a prominent figure in the remainder of the Europa League group stage matches, as well as Arsenal’s Carabao Cup campaign. The Gunners play Brighton in the third round of the competition in November.
