Arsenal back in for Aaron Ramsdale transfer after missing out on three targets

Arsenal are back in for Sheffield United keeper Aaron Ramsdale – after watching three other transfer targets slip away.

The Gunners pulled out of talks with the Blades over Ramsdale last week over his £35m asking price.

But they are confident they can now complete a deal for the England keeper – after a trio of blows in the transfer market.

Arsenal missed out on signing Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham after the striker completed his £34m move to Roma this week.

And they also missed out on Italy midfielder Manuel Locatelli as well when the Sassuolo star joined Juventus on loan with an obligation to buy.

Sassuolo chief executive Giovanni Carnevalli revealed in June that Arsenal had made an offer for the the player, who had his heart set on Juve.

Mikel Arteta's men also look set to see Dusan Vlahovic slip away, with the Fiorentina striker now close to signing for Atletico Madrid.

The Gunners need to shift Alexandre Lacazette before they sign another centre forward, and regarded Vlahovic’s £60m asking price as way too steep.

But Sheffield United boss Slavisa Jokanovic has given them renewed hope of getting a deal for Ramsdale over the line.

Jokanovic said: “I can understand that there is interest in him, as one of the most talented English players.

“But because he’s one of the best players in the league, his price is really high. It’s natural that he wants to be a Premier League player.

“I am talking with him and he believes it can be a good move for himself, but it’s not a bad thing for him if he stays with us.

“In the end it is the decision of Arsenal. If they want him, they need to spend a lot of money.

“It can happen, but it is something I don’t want. If you ask me if I want to sell him for £100m, I say no.

“But I can understand the business side of both clubs and of Aaron too. He understands very well what I want.

“I’m not the guy who wants to sell him for any price. If Arsenal want to offer £100m and it was up to me, I’d say no.

“But I must be responsible and prudent for the club too.”
