Arsenal and Liverpool have ‘been in contact’ with Lindstrom as sale planned

Arteta admits Arsenal are 'prepared' for transfer market movement

Liverpool and Arsenal have both reportedly been in contact with Eintracht Frankfurt to sound out their interest in Jesper Lindstrom. The midfielder impressed last season in the Bundesliga and is among the considerations of top clubs around Europe.

Lindstrom scored seven and assisted two in 27 league appearances last season, bettering his figures from the previous campaign and becoming one of the most exciting midfielders in the Bundesliga.

The 23-year-old has been tipped to leave Deutsche Bank Park as a result, with several Premier League clubs linked with acquiring his services. According to Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, Arsenal and Liverpool are among those that are keen to sign Lindstrom this summer and have identified him as a target.

Both sides are said to have ‘been in contact’ with Frankfurt to sound out their interest, with an offer in the region of £47million expected to test the resolve of the German side. Newcastle and Tottenham are also named as outfits to be interested in Lindstrom, with Juventus and Inter Milan hoping to lure the Danish international to the Serie A.

Frankfurt are reportedly ‘planning for the sale’ of Lindstrom and are keen to welcome bids, with any offer in the region of their asking price likely to be accepted. The Bundesliga side are hopeful that the volume of interest will spark a bidding war but there is no sign of such at this stage.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal or Liverpool table offers for Lindstrom, with both clubs both looking for midfielders. However, more defensive-minded players in that department are the priority for the sides.

Arsenal have already acquired the services of Kai Havertz to provide cover for club captain Martin Odegaard and a holding midfielder is a priority instead, with the need for reinforcements in that department set to be accelerated if Thomas Partey leaves.

Liverpool are also well-stocked with creative midfielders after signing Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai already this summer. The sales of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia has prompted the Reds to continue rebuilding their midfield and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia has been identified as a top target, with a second offer for the Belgium international expected to be lodged imminently.

Jurgen Klopp’s side should not be ruled out of adding two midfielders to their ranks over the coming weeks though, having allowed Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner to leave at the end of last season.
