Argentina will look to avenge their shock opening match loss to Saudi Arabia on Saturday, November 26 when they face Mexico.

Lionel Messi put Argentina in front within 10 minutes after converting a penalty, but they were unable to add to their lead as they saw three offsides goals disallowed.

And the underdogs Saudi Arabia struck back with two second half goals in a span of five minutes to earn a historic result for the Gulf nation.

Lionel Messi’s penalty kick was not enough to prevent Argentina from losing to Saudi Arabia

Meanwhile, Mexico can count themselves as somewhat fortunate to have gotten a point from their contest with Poland as Robert Lewandowski was denied from the penalty spot en route to a 0-0 draw.

Argentina will be highly motivated to put in an improved performance, while the Saudis’ shock win has made Mexico’s knockout stage hopes far more tricky.

El Tri converted 61 percent possession into just four shots on target vs. Poland, though they could find themselves more suited to a counter-attacking approach vs. Argentina.

Argentina vs. Mexico: Team news

While Messi is assured of his place in the lineup, there could be changes elsewhere in Lionel Scaloni’s XI.

Manchester United center back Lisandro Martinez could be handed a start after settling for a substitute appearance vs. Saudi Arabia, while Paulo Dybala will also hope to be more involved after not appearing in that contest.

For Mexico, Tata Matino could also consider changes after his side failed to break down Poland.

Wolves striker Raul Jimenez only entered that match in the 71st minute but could offer El Tri Premier League pedigree from the start vs. Argentina. Andres Guardado could appear in his fifth World Cup if he gets on the field.

Group C Table

Saudi Arabia are surprise leaders of the group so far after beating Argentina 2-1 – a result that not only makes life harder for the group favorites but also Mexico and Poland.

With those two dropping points against each other in their opening match, there now looks to be a legitimate four-way battle to get to the knockouts.
