Mikel Arteta is under increasing pressure at Arsenal due to their awful start to the Premier League season, as the Gunners are currently dead last after three games.

Arsenal are also yet to score in the league so far this season, making it their worst ever start to a top-flight campaign in their 118-year history.

Arteta has been rumoured to have until the October international break to turn his fortunes around or face becoming the first Premier League manager to be sacked.

One of the highest profile managers that is currently unemployed is Antonio Conte, who has been linked with succeeding Arteta should results continue at the Emirates.

Conte was in advanced talks with Tottenham over taking over from Jose Mourinho late last season, but an agreement couldn't be reached with the former Inter Milan boss.

It also appears that the current Serie A champion won't be heading to Arsenal either, as journalist Freddie Paxton spoke with Federico Pastorello – an Italian agent close to Conte.

Paxton's tweet read: "Rumours about Arsenal having a pre-agreement with Conte are “absolutely NOT true”. No official approach from Arsenal."

Conte has already experienced success in London as he led Chelsea to the Premier League title during his first season, and won the FA Cup a year later before being replaced by Maurizio Sarri due to his side finishing fifth.

Ironically, it was a game against Arsenal that turned Conte's Chelsea side around, as the Italian switched to a back three following a 3-0 defeat to the Gunners at the Emirates, and the Blues ended up winning 30 of the 38 league games that season.

Arsenal fans were hoping that Conte could be there man, and his ruthlessness defensively could turn their side around, but it appears that the rumours are wide of the mark for now.
