Antonio Conte "has one eye on Man Utd" instead of any interest in Newcastle job

Antonio Conte could snub an offer from Newcastle in order to stay available for a potential Manchester United move with pressure building on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

The Italian mastermind helped Inter Milan to their first Serie A title in 11 years last season to break the eight-year dominance of Juventus, but walked away in a row over finances.

That spell in Milan came after he led Chelsea to Premier League glory in his debut season in England, winning the FA Cup in his second campaign before leaving.

Although Newcastle are set to replace Steve Bruce following their Saudi-led takeover, they might be pushed back by Conte with another job potentially on the horizon.

That is the view of Jamie Redknapp, who spoke about the plans of the Toon chiefs as they took on Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.

He told Sky Sports in relation to Bruce: "My Dad managed over 1,000 games so I have a lot of sympathy for him. I’ll be totally honest when I look at him, he almost wants to be put out of his misery as well.

"I think he looks like a man he knows he’s done as much as he can. He’s a symbol of the previous regime, the fans don’t want him anymore.

"But because of the respect I have for him, I find it difficult to see this. He’ll be hating every minute of it, you have to be mad. Look at that face, he doesn’t want to be here.

"He’ll be relieved when he gets that phone call and it will be coming soon, I don’t want to talk out of term.

"You need the right man managing the team, he’s still going to be the most important man, he sets the tempo, he sets good examples, to find a good manager right now, there’s mooted about Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Antonio Conte, Conte maybe has one eye on what’s going on at Man United.

"It’s not that easy to get the players right now, the manager. I think Steve will be looking forward to the day he comes in and stepping aside, taking a break because this is not nice for anyone to be going through."

One United hero who is not so keen on links to Conte is Gary Neville, because he doesn't seem like the right fit at his former club.

He said on Instagram on Sunday: “Conte won’t be the manager at Manchester United, I don’t think.

“I don’t think they’ll go for that option, personally.

"He’s a great manager but I think certain managers fit certain clubs and I don’t think Conte fits United personally. As I say, great manager but doesn’t feel right for me that one.”
