Antonio Conte fires clear warning to struggling Tottenham star

Antonio Conte has warned Tanguy Ndombele that he must work harder than any other Tottenham player.

The 24-year-old has struggled to make an impact since joining Spurs from Lyon in a €60 million (£53.8m) deal in 2019.

Ndombele was keen to leave Spurs in the summer but ended up remaining at the club and now faces a tough battle to secure a regular role in Conte’s midfield.

Conte believes Ndombele ‘has the quality’ to be a success at Spurs but insists the midfielder must follow his tactical instructions.

‘I have seen many managers struggle about this situation with his position,’ said Conte.

‘For sure, Tanguy has the quality. But at the same time he has to start to understand there is a team and that he has to play into the team.

‘I think it means it is important to keep order and to do what the position asks you to do.

‘For sure with Tanguy we are working, we are working very hard. I think he has to work much more than the others.

‘As you say, he has talent but he has to put this talent into the team for the best of the team, not for the single player.

‘In my football I have an idea, in this idea there are tasks for the players. Every single player has to know what he has to do. Otherwise, if every single player [just] runs around the pitch, I think it could be a mess.’
