Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo return to Man Utd squad vs Brentford

Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo have returned to Manchester United’s matchday squad for their Premier League clash with Brentford on Wednesday evening.

Ronaldo missed United’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday due to a hip injury but the 36-year-old has been able to train since that game and is now back in contention.

Martial, meanwhile, was left out of United’s squad for the draw against Villa, with Ralf Rangnick claiming that the French forward had asked not to be selected.

Martial has started just two Premier League games this season and has not played a single minute since Rangnick was brought in as manager.

The 26-year-old disputed Rangnick’s claims and the United manager says the situation is ‘resolved’.

‘I’m here now for six weeks, all the things that need to be said I said after the press conference,’ Rangnick said on Tuesday.

‘I had a conversation with him on Sunday, a personal conversation with him about what happened and how I saw the whole situation, the matter is now resolved.

‘He didn’t train yesterday and the day before yesterday. He will probably train today and after training, I will then take the decision if he is nominated or not. But let’s see what will happen then.’

Rangnick also believes Marcus Rashford will be available after the England forward missed the Villa game, while Anthony Elanga has been included in the squad once again after he was handed a surprise start at the weekend.

‘He’s [Elanga] a young player, he has enough pace, he has enough focus on the game. From the very first training session, the day before the Crystal Palace game, he just showed me,’ said Rangnick.

‘He was showing up in the training sessions and that was the reason I decided to play him at Villa Park. I think he did well, he showed exactly what I expected him to deliver in that game.

‘He is a very bright boy, he’s doing the things, he listens to what he should do and he’s trying to put all the effort into his performances. I was pleased with his performance in the 75 minutes he played.’
