Ange Postecoglou has brilliant reply to journalist holding ‘Kane 9’ Bayern shirt

Tottenham Hotspur chief Ange Postecoglou had no time for a journalist's jibe over Harry Kane's potential exit from the club.

England's all-time record goalscorer has been strongly linked with a summer move to Bayern Munich after entering the final 12 months of his Spurs contract. Reports indicate Kane has no plans to sign an extension in north London, giving Postecoglou a considerable headache in his first few months at Spurs.

The reality of the situation has become one of the stories of the summer, featuring prominently in the public discourse amid suggestions Kane's 19-year association with Spurs could be set to end. However, that doesn't meant Postecoglou is ready to joke about the subject.

And the Australian didn't hide that fact after Bild journalist Max Schrader turned up at a recent press conference holding a Bayern shirt with Kane on the back with a No. 9. If the reporter in question intended to get a giggle out of Postecoglou, they could have done with more research on their audience.

"Did you get a good laugh there?" asked the former Celtic chief. "You've come a long way for that. Thank you."

Anyone familiar with Postcoglou's sense of humour could have predicted Kane's potential exit isn't a laughing matter for the manager. The striker's decision has the potential to dictate Tottenham's future for years to come, with Postecoglou under immense pressure to convince the club veteran to prolong his stay.

The press conference poke occurred in the build-up to Sunday's pre-season friendly against Leicester City. Spurs take on the relegated Foxes at Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok as part of their summer tour of Asia.

Kane started in Tottenham's 3-2 friendly defeat to West Ham on Tuesday but failed to find the back of the net. The 29-year-old came off at half-time with Spurs trailing 2-0, a result that's unlikely to have helped Spurs in their efforts to convince him to stay.

Postecoglou's quest to keep hold of his talisman also hasn't been helped by reports Barcelona are now in the race for his signature. Spurs face a conundrum in whether to keep their star for another season in the event he's genuine about not signing a new deal, facing the risk of missing out on a considerable fee if he remains at the club in the campaign to come.

There's at least one Bayern supporter upbeat about the Bavarians' chance of signing the star this summer, but Postecoglou isn't ready to make light of the situation just yet.
