Almeria 1-3 Real Madrid: Jude Bellingham scores brace

Almeria 1-3 Real Madrid: Jude Bellingham scores brace and provides assist as England midfielder continues impressive start to life in Spain

  • Jude Bellingham scored twice as Real Madrid won 3-1 against Almeria
  • Bellingham also provided an assist for Vinicius Junior in an impressive display

Jude Bellingham made it three goals and one assist in his first two games for his new club as Real Madrid beat Almeria 3-1 away. The England man became the first player since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009 to score in both his first two matches for the club.

His first goal came on 19 minutes when Fede Valverde headed down a Dani Carvajal cross and he controlled it in a crowded area and poked it into the corner. The celebration was muted with some doubt as to whether he had been onside but VAR confirmed his position and Madrid were level having gone behind after just three minutes.

That opening goal came from Sergio Arribas, a former Real Madrid player. The youth teamer who got 21 goals last season for Madrid’s B-team scored with a header from a Robertone cross having got forward faster than Toni Kroos could run back.

Kroos was in the team for Eduardo Camavinga with the Frenchman coming on in the second half with his thigh heavily strapped. It was Kroos who thought he had put Madrid ahead but his well taken goal was ruled out for offside after Carvajal was adjudged to have fouled Sergio Akieme in the build-up.

Madrid did finally take the lead in the second half when Kroos crossed and Bellingham headed past Luis Maximiano taking advantage of the way the keeper had committed himself with no real chance of getting to the ball.

Vinicius got the third for Real Madrid. There is a different role for him this season with the attacking full-backs providing the width and his job to be more of a central striker. From Bellingham’s assist he floated the ball to the back post sending it beyond the debutant Almeria keeper.

Brahim Diaz and Joselu came on late on as Bellingham was taken off and they nearly combined for the fourth goal but Diaz could not pick out the former Spain centre-forward.

Madrid in the end were comfortable winners and their start to the season has been impressive. They are coping without the injured Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois. Kepa waited on the bench as Lunin kept goal. The keeper on loan from Chelsea will make his debut next Friday when Real Madrid play Celta Vigo.

Up front they are also missing Karim Benzema, sold in the summer. But thanks to Bellingham no one has noticed so far.
