There was no prouder dad on planet earth than Alfe-Inge Haaland at the Etihad Stadium.

After-all, he watched his son Erling absolutely demolish Manchester United, helping himself to his third consecutive home hattrick in the process. The titanic 22–year-old has already hammered home 14 goals and three assists in just eight Premier League appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side, as well as three goals in two Champions League games.

Haaland is only 10 goals away from surpassing Mohame d Salah’s golden boot tally from last season and has 30 games left to play. And as Haaland senior continues to watch his son establish himself as a future Premier League great, Daily Star Sport considers seven players who were even better than their footballing Fathers.

Alfe-Inge Haaland and Erling Haaland

Yes we have already mentioned him, but Haaland’s form is worthy of one more mention. However, his old man Alfie was no slouch himself. A truly versatile player who could play at full-back, right midfield, central midfield, or central defence, Haaland Sr was a manager’s dream.

Despite the fact his football career was ended by a horrific challenge from Roy Keane, Haaland still made 181 Premier League appearances over the course spells at Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, and City. While he was a very good player himself, the 49-year-old would be the first to admit his son has already surpassed his achievements.

Frank Lampard Senior and Frank Lampard:

Frank Lampard Senior made around 551 appearances for West Ham United over the course of 18 seasons at the Boleyn Ground. Ironically, it was his huge career that probably ruined his son’s chances of becoming a West Ham great himself, as Hammers’ fans often said Lampard was only getting into the team because of his father’s heritage.

How they were made to regret their derision, as Lampard would depart the club for Chelsea, where he went on to become one of the greatest midfielders of his generation. Three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, and a Champions League later, not to mention 177 Premier League goals, Lampard is now the manager of Everton, having also managed Derby County and the west Londoners.

Cesare Maldini and Paolo Maldini

The Maldinis are one of the most dominant footballing families in the beautiful game, with three generations of Maldinis winning Serie A titles with AC Milan. But while the great Cesare Maldini was a fabulous player, his son Paolo Maldini is still revered as being one of the finest defenders of all time.

Maldini won three Champions Leagues, seven Serie A titles, and one Italian Cup at the San Siro. Within the next few years, Maldini may find himself on a similar list, as his son Daniel Maldini became the third generation of the family to lift the Serie A title last season.

Miguel Alonso and Xabi Alonso

Another jaw dropping footballing family steeped in, as Jose Mourinho would call it, ‘football heritage’. Miguel Alonso is best known for his spells at Real Sociedad and Barcelona during the 1970s and 1980s.

However, his son Xabi, needs no introduction, having appeared for Sociedad, Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich. While his old man was a wonderful player himself, he does not come close to his son’s incredible trophy haul at club and international level, as he won the Champions League with both Liverpool and Madrid, oh and lifted the World Cup and the European Championship (twice) with Spain.

Josef Klose – Miroslav Klose

Miroslav Klose is the World Cup’s all-time leading goalscorer, having netted 16 goals in 24 matches for Germany. However, his father Josef Klose actually represented Poland during his footballing career between 1966 and 1984.

However, Klose senior’s time in the game was a lot humbler, playing for the likes of Odra Opole, AJ Auxerre, and FC Chalon. As well as winning the World Cup and surpassing Brazil icon Ronaldo in the competition's scoring charts, his son also enjoyed success with Bayern Munich, winning two Bundesliga titles and two German Cups, as well as a historic Italian Cup triumph with Lazio in 2013.

Pierre-Francois Aubameyang and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s father, Pierre-Francois Aubameyang must have a wardrobe full of shirts, having watched his son play for Arsenal, Barcelona, and Chelsea since the summer of 2021. Fortunately, the former Gabon assistant manager also knew what it was like to jump from club to club, having played for six teams in France, as well as brief spells at Colombian side Junior FC and Italian team Triestina.

Meanwhile, Aubameyang has also played for Saint Etienne, AC Milan, and Dijon, Lille, Monaco, and Borussia Dortmund. His instinctive finish in Chelsea’s 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace could very well be a sign of things to come for the experienced striker.

Carles Busquets and Sergio Busquets

Another football family who appear to be making a long lasting legacy in the sport. Sergio Busquets is one of the finest midfielders of his generation, having been the midfield backbone of eight La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues, and seven Spanish Cups, as well as two European Championships and one World Cup with Spain.

Before Busquets broke onto the scene, very few would believe he would surpass the achievements of his father, former Barcelona goalkeeper Carles Busquets. However, he has more than dwarfed his old man’s 16 major trophies with the Catalans, over the course of 15 years.
