6 superstars already linked with Newcastle days after £300m takeover confirmed

Newcastle United have seen their name thrust to the top of most rumour mills since the PIF groups takeover last Thursday.

The PIF group, backed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, have made the Toon Army the wealthiest side in club football.

Newcastle's new owners are said to be worth over ten times the amount of Manchester City.

And with their newfound millions has come a hat-full of transfer rumours linking the Magpies to some of the world's top players.

And Daily Star Sport are looking at six players who have been linked with a move to St James' Park.

Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling transformed himself after a disappointing season under Pep Guardiola into England's golden boy over the summer at Euro 2020.

However, since returning to the City fold, Sterling has struggled for game time once more.

Newcastle legend Wayne Barton urged his former side to go and pick up the 26-year-old.

"You’ve got to strike while the iron’s hot, you’ve got to look, Sterling, not happy, not playing at Manchester City, come and join us," he told talkSPORT.

Donny Van de Beek

Another man struggling for game time is Donny Van de Beek.

Van de Beek was a standout at Ajax, and he played a major role in their fairytale Champions League run during the 2018/29 season, which saw the Amsterdam side dump out Real Madrid and Juventus.

However, since his move to Manchester United in the summer of 2020, Van de Beek has struggled to break into the first team.

Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Newcastle are set to go head to head with Juve for his signature.

Philippe Coutinho

Philippe Coutinho regularly raised the roof of Anfield with stunning solo performances during his time in the Premier League.

However, since his move to Barcelona, and subsequent loan to Bayern Munich, the Brazilian has failed to hit similar highs.

A move to Newcastle could reignite Coutinho's career, and according to Spanish outlet Sport, Coutinho's representatives have held talks with Newcastle.

It is believed that Barcelona would want around €50million for his services.

Mauro Icardi

Newcastle are looking for a superstar to lead them into their new era, and Mauro Icardi could prove the perfect candidate.

Although the striker has no Premier League experience, he has a proven track record of finding the net across Europe.

And after the arrival of Lionel Messi, Icardi has found his game time at PSG significantly less.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato are reporting that Newcastle want Icardi alongside Tottenham and Juventus.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Koulibaly has been linked with a plethora of Premier League clubs over the past couple of years, but there have always been stumbling blocks.

Now 30, Newcastle could take the chance on the Senegalese centre-half, despite his hefty price tag.

Football Insider are reporting that Newcastle have made Koulibaly their top target as Napoli's £89million valuation has started to tumble.

United, City, and Chelsea have all harboured interest in the defender at various points.

James Tarkowski

While James Tarkowski isn't the most glamorous name on this list, he could be the most critical.

Newcastle are currently languishing in the relegation zone, and any Champions League plans would have to take a back seat if Steve Bruce's side are relegated.

Tarkowski could be picked up this January and offer extra protection at the back to steer the Magpies clear of the drop.

The Telegraph are reporting Tarkowski is set to become Newcastle's first signing of the new era.
