5 punditry moments prove Roy Keane will be missed if he gets Sunderland job

It's been over a decade since Roy Keane has been sat in a dugout in the hot seat for a team.

In the time since, the once hard-hitting midfielder has been a constant presence on TV screens, even forging an odd-couple friendship with Micah Richards.

And fans have come to love the Irishman's brutally honest punditry.

However, that could all be set to change with Keane looking set to swap the Sky Sports Studio for the Stadium of Light.

And Daily Star Sport are looking at five moments of Keane's punditry that proves why fans will miss him should he join Sunderland.

"Really?"

In early 2020, ahead of Manchester United and Liverpool's latest clash, Keane and Jamie Carragher were debating a combined XI of the Reds' current crop and United's treble side.

"Does that three work for you, with Beckham tucked in there," Keane was asked before responding: "Yeah, I'm just wondering where we're going to fit the other United lads in – you've got Giggsy."

However, Carragher quickly interjected: "Giggs isn't going in my team."

To which Keane, who was half heartbroken and half stunned, responded: "R-really?

"I might smash into somebody"

After United were put to the sword by Liverpool in late October, a couple of weeks later they welcomed high-flying Manchester City.

City mercilessly picked United apart as they romped to a 2-0 triumph, leaving Keane seething in the studio.

Keane took aim at the United players lack of effort, before letting the other pundits know exactly what he'd do.

"Do you know what, I might smash into somebody, just to make me feel better."

To be Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at this moment.

The Dutch goalscorer sat in stunned silence as it looked like Carragher and Keane were about to come to blows.

The pair argued about Cristiano Ronaldo's return to United after the Red Devils had limped to a 1-1 draw with Chelsea earlier this season.

Carragher cheekily brought the argument back up on social media on Friday (February 4) after Manchester United were dumped out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough.

After one particular poor Manchester derby in late 2020, a bore 0-0 draw, Keane seethed at the scenes following the final whistle.

International teammates John Stones and Harry Maguire shared an embrace before walking off talking and laughing.

"Really poor, we got 2 booking in a derby game, I have never seen so many hugs and chats, I don't get it," Keane said, in utter disbelief.

"I'm scratching my head, I'm really frustrated. You've got to go and find a way to win a game of football."

Micah Richards

The two are polar oppositions, but together they create TV gold.

Where Carragher and Gary Neville were on pitch rivals who have come together in the studio, Keane and Richards never met on the pitch.

However, their punditry has become must-watch TV, and the former City defender seemingly the only man to be able to get Keane to crack a half-smile.
