3 Celtic fans arrested for ‘using glue and expanding foam’ on Ibrox entrances

Three Celtic fans have been arrested for allegedly trying to stop Rangers supporters from gaining access to Ibrox by using glue and expanding foam on the stadium's entrances.

It is claimed the incident took place in the early hours of Sunday morning ahead of the Scottish Premiership rivals' colossal Old Firm match-up. Police Scotland have confirmed that three men have been arrested and charged in connection with an incident that took place at around 2.30am.

Enquiries are still ongoing, but Police Scotland have released a statement which says: "Police responded around 2.45am on Sunday, 3 April, 2022 following vandalism at Ibrox Stadium, Govan.

"Officers attended and three men aged 18, 22 and 25 have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. Enquiries remain ongoing."

A Rangers spokesperson spoke to the Scottish Sun and confirmed: "It's been an attempt from Celtic fans to prevent Rangers fans from getting into the ground."

Sky Sports editor Anthony Joseph has claimed the incident took place at the Broomloan End, where a group known as the Broomloan Collective position themselves during matches.

He tweeted: "Police Scotland arrested three men at Ibrox after a group vandalised the stadium overnight, ahead of today’s match between Rangers and Celtic. Expanding foam was sprayed around the entrances to the turnstiles at the Broomloan end."

The bizarre strange incident comes just hours before a potentially decisive clash in the race for the Scottish Premiership title. Celtic head into the game with a three-point lead at the top and a vastly superior goal difference.

Ange Postecoglou's side thrashed Rangers 3-0 when the sides met at Parkhead in early February, with a Reo Hatate brace and a solitary strike from Liel Abada doing the damage.

Rangers won the first meeting between the two teams in August when Steven Gerrard was in charge. New boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be hoping for a similar outcome at Ibrox this afternoon.
