Owen Farrell calls Eddie Jones' sacking 'unbelievably disappointing'
Owen Farrell calls Eddie Jones’ sacking as England coach ‘unbelievably disappointing’ and insists the team’s poor run of form this year didn’t ‘happen because of one person’
- Eddie Jones was dismissed from his role as England coach by the RFU this week
- Jones enjoyed a seven-year stint as head coach but departs before World Cup
- England captain Owen Farrell called the decision to axe Jones disappointing
- Farrell stated his view that Jones was not solely to blame for England’s poor form
Owen Farrell has spoken out after Eddie Jones was dismissed from his role as England coach by the Rugby Football Union earlier this week.
Jones was relieved of his duties after a disappointing year in charge with just five wins from twelve Tests in 2022.
But with less than a year remaining until the World Cup, Farrell explained that the blame for the team’s dismal run of form should not rest squarely at the ousted Australian’s shoulders.

But England captain Owen Farrell called the decision to dismiss the Australian ‘disappoiting’
‘It’s unbelievably disappointing.’ The Saracens fly-half told BBC Sport.
‘Eddie had been a big part of England Rugby for a long time now and he has been one of the best coaches I have ever had so, for that, I’m massively thankful.
‘We are disappointed it has finished early and we owe a lot to him. I have been around for a while now and not been around too many changes, both at club and international level. It’s not pleasant to go through.
Rugby Australia are considering a sensational swoop for their former head coach ahead of the World Cup
‘I don’t think it has come from the players. There is obviously stuff we all want to get better at from the results but as players you look at yourself and see what you can do.’
Despite less than a week having passed since Jones’ departure Australia are considering a move to install the 62-year-old as their new head coach.
Jones does not have a no-compete clause in his severance dea with the RFU and would be free to take over the Wallabies for the upcoming World Cup in France.
