NRL investigates Titans players over potential COVID-19 breach
The NRL is investigating allegations four Titans players, including captain Kevin Proctor, breached the game’s COVID-19 protocols by playing poker machines at a Sydney pub without a mask.
The NRL has been told Proctor was seen at the Locker Room bar, Olympic Park, with three teammates.
Under current NRL level-two restrictions, players are not allowed in an indoor venue without a mask. Players are also not allowed to travel on public transport and must be temperature checked upon arrival to training and game.
Titans chief executive Dennis Watts has been informed of the breach and will assist the NRL’s investigation.
The Titans have recently been relocated to Sydney due to the recent COVID-19 outbreaks in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, and are staying in Homebush before their Saturday clash against the Raiders.
The NRL is considering a fine or warning for Wests Tigers recruit James Roberts and Parramatta utility Will Smith, after the pair were seen attending Wednesday night’s Tim Tszyu fight in Newcastle without face masks.
The NRL said it would hand down sanctions next week.
All clubs were warned about attending the fight via an email from the NRL on Wednesday afternoon, however South Sydney Rabbitohs duo Latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker received an exemption. They were pictured wearing masks.
Previous biosecurity breaches last year saw Mitchell and Josh Addo-Carr both fined $50,000 last year, while Tyronne Roberts-Davis, Christian Welch and Nathan Cleary were all fined $10,000 for various breaches.
