Essendon bolster footy department in coaching merry-go-round
Essendon have landed in-demand assistant coach Dale Tapping, with the former Brisbane Lions and Collingwood assistant coach set to join the Bombers.
Tapping spoke to several clubs after deciding to return to Melbourne for family reasons but Essendon have secured his signature as they look to add experience around senior coach Ben Rutten.
Tapping was well regarded at both Collingwood and the Brisbane Lions, with the Lions offering him a deal to remain. However, the former VFL star and VAFA player decided it was time to return to Victoria.
He is well-regarded for his ability to build strong relationships with players and shapes as a future senior coaching candidate.
There are several clubs looking to fill assistant coaching positions with Geelong and Carlton on the lookout. The Cats are looking to refresh the panel under Chris Scott, who is expected to remain as coach beyond 2022, while the Blues’ new coach Michael Voss will have a say in the panel of coaches he works with next season.
Collingwood are also looking for a head of development and an assistant coach after Damian Carroll joined the Saints.
