‘Ensure every precaution taken’: May concussed, not locked in for round one
Melbourne full-back Steven May is no certainty to play in round one after the club confirmed he suffered a mild concussion in their pre-season match against the Western Bulldogs on Monday.
May was taken from the field looking groggy in the final term after colliding with Bulldogs ruckman Tim English and went straight down the player race for assessment.

Melbourne are struggling in their key position stocks, however. Ben Brown and Sam Weideman are out injured for months yet, Oscar McDonald was let go at the end of 2020 (he has now signed with Carlton) and new signing Majak Daw will need to slowly build up to AFL readiness.
Pleasingly, Jake Lever also played well in defence on Monday and Tom McDonald and Luke Jackson can hold down forward positions.
