Captain Cordner sets return date for injury-ravaged Roosters

Roosters skipper Boyd Cordner has set a date for his return to top-level rugby league when his side take on the Gold Coast Titans.

The Daily Telegraph reported what looms as a big boost for the injury-hit Chooks, captain Cordner is set to make his comeback in Round 14.

Cordner has been rested indefinitely after copping another concussion in last year’s State of Origin series.

That was Cordner’s fourth head knock in the space of a year and it led to the Roosters putting him on a sabbatical to rest and recover.

Even with their injury crisis – the Roosters are without Lindsay Collins, Brett Morris, Luke Keary (all three with season-ending ACL injuries), Freddy Lussick, Lachlan Lam and Billy Smith have all been sidelined this season.

But despite that the Roosters have resisted the temptation to rush Cordner back.

Cordner told The Daily Telegraph that he was glad to have a timeline to look forward to.

“It’s exciting now I’ve got a timeline and something to aim for,” Cordner said.

“I’ve got to get myself through a big block of contact then I’ll be sweet to go.

“I’m obviously really looking forward to it.”

The Daily Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis is adamant the Roosters have ticked every box in ensuring a safe return for their inspirational skipper.

“Great news, they’ve pencilled in Round 14 for his comeback,” Carayannis said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“It’ll be against the Titans on June 12, which will be eight months after Origin.

“That’s a fairly long stint on the sidelines with all of the concussion hurdles, but the Roosters have taken all the precautions with his health and where their season is at.”
