Verstappen slammed Drive to Survive for ‘faking rivalries’ to create TV drama

Drive to Survive raced onto TV screens on Wednesday – but there was one notable omission from the show, Max Verstappen.

Fans had been hoping to see Verstappen's insight from his dramatic last-lap victory against Lewis Hamilton in the Abu Dhabi desert last December.

However, Verstappen had already announced he wouldn't feature in the fourth season documentary, despite appearing in the other three, due to Netflix 'faking rivalries'.

Verstappen told the AP: "I understand that it needs to be done to boost the popularity in America.

"But from my side as a driver, I don't like being part of it."

The Dutchman added: "They faked a few rivalries which they don't really exist.

"So I decided to not be a part of it and did not give any more interviews after that because then there is nothing you can show.

"I am not really a dramatic show kind of person, I just want facts and real things to happen.

"Probably in the Netflix show we will be [shown as rivals]. We one time bumped into each other walking, so probably that will be in there."

"There's no way anybody was thinking: 'Will this play well on Netflix?'"
