Max Verstappen has retired from the Australian Grand Prix on Saturday morning after pulling his Red Bull off the track.

The reigning World Drivers Champion pulled over to the side of the track and told his team over the radio 'he could smell some weird fluid'. A virtual safety car was deployed as Verstappen's machine was drenched with fire extinguisher fluid on the 40th lap of the race.

Verstappen's teammate Sergio Perez enquired about his teammate asking: "What was the problem with Max?" Only for the Red Bull team to reply: "Don't worry about Max. Not relevant on our car." The Dutchman pulling out opened the door for George Russel who was running third at the time, and he could leap frog him in the standings.
