Verstappen copies Ronaldo in odd moment as Norris and Alonso crack up

Max Verstappen left Lando Norris and Fernando Alonso in stitches after he unexpectedly imitated Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous “Suii” catchphrase. On Sunday, Verstappen clinched his 17th win of the season at the Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo.

With that victory, he became the first driver to break the coveted 500-point barrier while Norris and Alonso finished behind him in second and third place. After the race, the trio sat down to take questions from the media which is where the bizarre moment occurred.

One journalist asked the panel whether they liked being followed around by Netflix cameras for their popular ‘Formula 1: Drive to Survive’ series. But before they could think up their answers, Verstappen picked up his mic and shouted “Suii” as Alonso and Norris burst out laughing.

When he eventually answered the question, Verstappen stated that he wished social media never existed, a sentiment that Alonso agreed with. The Spaniard also admitted he had never even watched an episode of ‘Drive to Survive’.

“No. No. I don’t know, probably I’m a bit more old school in that. I wish social media never existed,” said Verstappen. “Freedom of speech, right?”

Alonso then added: “Yeah. I’m very focused on the racing and not on this show. I never saw any of this Drive to Survive, even Season 1 or whatever, I never saw any episode. Did you?”

Verstappen and Red Bull have been utterly dominant this season. So far, the reigning constructor champions have only failed to win one race in 2023, when Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jr pipped Norris to the top spot at the Singapore Grand Prix in September.

No matter what happens in the final two races of 2023, Verstappen will finish the campaign with the highest percentage of wins in a season, surpassing Ascari’s 75% from 1952 while Red Bull recently set the record for the most amount of points collected by a team, surpassing the 765 points Mercedes secured during the 2016 campaign.
