Spanish Grand Prix grid girls writhed over cars in hot thongs and tiny tank tops

The Spanish Grand Prix grid girls once writhed over cars ahead of the race while wearing hot thongs and tiny tank tops.

Pictures from the Formula One race in April 2002 show the four grid girls enjoying themselves trackside prior to the race starting as they pose on top of and alongside one of the cars. The quartet can be seen wearing racy sets of tank tops and thongs, sporting both orange and black colours.

In one image, the girls can be seen perched on top of the car before posing in sunglasses as they pretend to change a tyre during a pit stop.

Another picture from the race in Barcelona shows the girls holding up a sign that reads "First Gear" as they make the most of the Spanish sunshine.

Once the race got underway, Ferrari's Michael Schumacher drove to victory after starting in pole position, taking the chequered flag on his way to winning a third consecutive Drivers' Championship.

The legendary German driver would go on to win five in a row as he ended his racing career with a record seven title, matched only by Lewis Hamilton.

Who will win this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix? Let us know in the comments section below.

After seeing his hopes of a record-breaking eighth title dashed in dramatic fashion in Abu Dhabi last year, Hamilton has struggled so far this season.

He is currently sixth in the standings after five races, with his only podium of the year being a third placed finish at the season opener in Bahrain back in March.

Hamilton and Mercedes will hope for better luck at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend, though, in this year's edition of the Spanish Grand Prix, with Hamilton admitting he is "relaxed" heading into the race.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc goes into the race top of the Drivers' Championship with a 19-point lead over second place Max Verstappen, who won the previous race in Miami a fortnight ago.

The Red Bull driver will be hoping to close the gap to or even overtake Leclerc in the standings this weekend with his 24th overall race win and second triumph in Spain.
