McLaren F1 star Lando Norris announced he had broken up with girlfriend Luisinha Oliveira ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix.

The pair made their relationship public in January, although they had reportedly been dating for more than a year. But last week, Norris took to his Instagram stories to confirm the relationship has ended.

“Hello everyone. After time and consideration Luisa and myself have mutually decided to end our romantic relationship but remain good friends,” he wrote. “I wish her the world and have so much respect for her and all she does as such an amazing woman with nothing but kindness. Please respect our decision and respect our but more importantly and especially her privacy moving forward. Thank you for your endless support.”

Over at the weekend in Zandvoort, Sky Sports pitlane reporter Ted Kravitz broke off from talking about F1 affairs to address the end of Norris’s relationship with Oliveira, and suggested a potential reason for their split.

“Poor Lando,” sympathised Kravitz during his post-qualifying Notebook programme. “It’s Notebook topic that he’s split up with Luisa, his girlfriend. I wouldn’t ask him [about it] because it’s not private life.

“It was a bit of a sad one when I saw him on Thursday. As I understand it, from Lando’s family, she’s a lovely girl, she’s from a lovely family, they got on really well.

“And I wonder if it was the pressure of being in the public eye. I know she’s received some stick, and he has, on social media, the hateful place that is social media, Instagram and Twitter.

“I just wonder if it was too much, too soon, too much pressure. It’s difficult. Clearly, they were extremely fond of each other. From what Lando said on social media, it was all pretty gutting that they’d broken up. My commiserations to Lando, I hope he’s all right.”

“We’ve all had our hearts broken, haven’t we. I’m hoping Lando isn’t feeling too cut up about it."
