Having presided over a Red Bull one-two finish in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Sunday, Christian Horner returned to the UK to watch his racehorse win at Newbury.
Horner and his ex-Spice Girl wife Geri watched their horse Lift Me Up, named after Geri’s 1991 solo hit, win the Open Hunters’ Chase at Newbury on Friday. The race was Lift Me Up’s first under rules and the horse saw off stiff competition to win by a length and bank the Horner’s £2,361 in prize money.
Speaking to RacingTV after the win, Geri said: “We both love horses and we are happy hackers. I bought a horse for Christian who was an ex-racehorse and said ‘Why don’t we try and get a point-to-pointer?’
“This was the first time he has run under Rules. It’s amazing. When we saw that rainbow we thought it was a sign.”

Christian added: “It’s an amazing performance. James [King] rode a great race but Maxine [Filby] and Natasha [Halliday] did a wonderful, wonderful job.
“It’s supposed to be a weekend off for me. It’s great to see him run so well. He’s obviously got a lot of potential which is exciting to see.
“He’s a lovely horse, so we are very proud to have him. He’s a gentle giant. It’s my first time ever at Newbury. What a lovely venue, so to get a winner under Rules is wonderful.”

The couple have previously revealed they hope Lift Me Up can one day qualify for the Foxhunter Chase at Cheltenham Festival, with Christian comparing the horse to Red Bull driver Max Verstappen.
“That’s the dream,” he told the Telegraph earlier this month. “[Lift Me Up] is more of a Max Verstappen type… he just refuses to be beaten.”
