Paddy Pimblett calls F1 fans "oily d****" as he swaps octagon for the race track

Paddy Pimblett had a day to remember as he swapped the octagon for the race track by paying a visit to the British Grand Prix.

The UFC star was a guest of the Haas team and seemed to be a lucky charm for the F1 minnows, who secured a double points finish with drivers Mick Schumacher and Kevin Magnussen. Paddy The Baddy and his entourage documented the day for a video for his YouTube vlog.

After an early start from his home in Liverpool, Pimblett admitted he knew little about the sport, although he had watched Netflix’s Drive to Survive series, which goes behind the scenes of the sport. He also revealed his favourite driver of all time is Ayrton Senna, whom he called an “absolute legend”.

Pimblett added that F1 “wasn’t as Tory as golf” and said that many of the sport’s fans are working class.

“I know you’ve got to be rich to be involved but a lot of the fans aren’t,” he said. “I know a few people who are big on F1 and they’re proper petty [petrol] heads, proper oily d****, they just love engines and having greasy fingers.”

After a visit to the Haas HQ to pick up their passes, the Pimblett crew headed to Silverstone. After meeting the team, he even took part in pitstop practice before mingling with fellow VIPs on the grid ahead of the race. To his surprise, rapper Stormzy was among the many people who wanted to have their picture taken with him.

As the race got underway, Pimblett was left visibly shocked by the horrifying crash involving Zhou Guanyu, whose Alfa Romeo was flipped upside down before sliding along the gravel trap and slamming into the safety fence, just yards from spectators. Thankfully, the Chinese driver emerged from the wreck unharmed.

As the Haas team celebrated at the end of the race, Pimblett cheekily swiped a piece of flapjack from the back of the garage. After congratulating the team, it was time for home, but not before he bumped into Brentford footballers Ivan Toney and Ethan Pinnock, who wished him luck for his upcoming fight against Jordan Leavitt.

“A brilliant day, I’ll definitely be coming back here next year,” he said to round off the vlog.
