Norris accuses Verstappen of ‘ruining everything for everyone’ at British GP

McLaren driver Lando Norris joked that Max Verstappen “ruins everything for everyone” at the British Grand Prix after the Brit secured second place for Sunday’s race. His team were the stars of qualifying, as team-mate Oscar Piastri completed the top three, with Norris securing a huge cheer from the home fans at Silverstone.
Speaking after qualifying, Norris was slightly dismayed despite the successful outing as he was so close to taking pole. He told Sky Sports F1: “It’s always Max, he always ruins everything for everyone” before chuckling away with the Red Bull man following their positive runs.
“I was close (to pole)!” Norris said. “Pretty insane. My last lap was a good lap. I could hear Zak (Brown) on the in lap which was the best thing ever. It’s great for both of us, pretty amazing for the whole team.
“Max always ruins everything! No, I’m very happy. It’s been a special day for us. It makes up for everything, all the hard work we have been putting in – especially here with the new livery, home race for myself and the team. A big thanks to everyone.”

It was clear how much both Norris and Piastri’s qualifying results meant to McLaren, as team boss Zak Brown could be seen celebrating in their garage by high-fiving several members of staff and chanting.
Norris beat fellow Brits George Russell and Lewis Hamilton who finished sixth and seventh respectively, as the result will give both McLaren drivers a massive boost going into the race as they were very close to Verstappen in first.

Verstappen himself admitted his surprise at seeing the two McLarens behind him. “It’s been quite a crazy qualifying,” he said. “It was quite hectic and slippery in some places. We did our laps and then Q3, I was quite surprised to see them two there.
“It’s great for McLaren to be here and very happy from our side to be on pole. Q1 and Q2 there were still a few damp spots. We pushed close to the limit but knowing we have a quick start we didn’t have to go 100 per cent limit.
“That’s why in Q3 when you go for it that’s where we eeked out a little bit. I’m looking forward to tomorrow already.”
