Martin Brundle named boss of Phillip Schofields F1 dream team
Offbeat news from the world of sport
This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield was one of a host of celebrities who were among the VIP guests at Sunday’s British Grand Prix.
Stars of film, football, food and TV were at Silverstone for the big race, and they saw a thriller as Carlos Sainz picked up his first-ever F1 victory. It’s fair to say the F1 knowledge of many of the VIPs was limited, but not in the case of Schofield, who is a big fan of the sport and has followed it for years.
Schofield has interviewed Lando Norris on This Morning in the past, so appropriately he was a guest of the McLaren team. Norris went on to finish sixth after another strong drive from the British driver.

Schofield appeared as a guest on Sky Sports F1’s Any Driven Monday show, which airs after a race. He told of how he was on the grid before the race and was even given Norris’s steering to hold briefly.
He also was asked by presenters Matt Baker and Naomi Schiff, who he would select as drivers and team boss if he was in charge of his own F1 team. One of the drivers was no surprise as This Morning have ‘adopted’ Norris as their representative on the grid.

“He’s going to be my principal driver,” said the former Going Live frontman. “I’m also going to pinch Charles Leclerc.
“My team principal, and I’m going to get myself in hot water with you guys [Sky Sports], because I’m going to take Martin Brundle from you and make him my principal. I saw him before we went onto the grid on Sunday and I said to him he was dressed very smartly.”
After being asked for his thoughts on the rest of season, Schofield was interrupted by a parcel delivery to his home, causing him to disappear from the screen for a few seconds. He eventually returned and opened the parcel, which didn't contain any F1 literature but a Nigella Lawson cookbook.
