Lewis Hamilton’s net worth absolutely crushes Max Verstappen’s

Lewis Hamilton previews 2023 Miami Grand Prix

The net worth of drivers on the 2023 F1 grid confirms that it’s one of the world’s best-paying sports, and with good reason. Why should individuals spend prolonged periods away from their families and navigate tracks at 200mph and not get handsomely compensated?

But given Max Verstappen’s recent domination in Red Bull’s unstoppable car, how much more value Lewis Hamilton possesses may come as a surprise.

Verstappen has won the last two Drivers’ Championships and is expected to cruise to a third in 2023 unless Sergio Perez has anything to say about it.

His net worth this year stands at £72million, which is not bad in the slightest, considering he’s just 25 years old.

He’ll be earning a healthy salary after signing a contract extension at Red Bull last year, committing his future to the team until 2028.

However, he isn’t actually in the top two on the grid when it comes to his net worth.

Fernando Alonso may be the oldest driver in F1, aged 41, but he’s also the second richest, with a net worth of £126m.

The Spaniard is on fire for Aston Martin this season and will retire as one of the greatest drivers the sport has ever seen.

But first, with a net worth of almost £200m more than Verstappen, is Hamilton, despite his woes at Mercedes in the last two years.

The 38-year-old Brit has sat at the top of F1 for most of his career, matching Michael Schumacher’s seven world title wins.

And his prolonged success and interests off the grid have helped him earn a net worth of £270.9m, more than several current drivers’ combined.

Rounding off the top 10, Sergio Perez is fourth (£62.4m), while Daniel Ricciardo is joint-fifth with Lance Stroll (£41.6m), despite only being Red Bull’s third driver after losing his McLaren seat.

Pierre Gasly is seventh (£27.4m), followed by Valtteri Bottas (£25m), Kevin Magnussen (£20.8m) and Esteban Ocon (£14.9m).

Although Verstappen emphatically trails Hamilton in 2023, he’s bound to catch up one day if he continues his upward trajectory.

There can be no doubt that the Dutchman is the hottest property in F1 and will continue to carry that status as long as Red Bull provide him with a strong package.
