Lewis Hamilton wrapped up in new contract twist as McLaren left in crisis mode
Lewis Hamilton has received two approaches from F1 rivals Ferrari this season with the Italian manufacturer attempting to bring the seven-time champion into the fold at Maranello. Meanwhile, Alex Palou’s major contract twist has left McLaren’s F1 and IndyCar operations in crisis mode ahead of the 2024 season.
Lewis Hamilton’s new Mercedes contract has been at the centre of discussions in the F1 community this season with the legendary British driver still yet to sign an extension to his deal with Mercedes, which is scheduled to expire at the end of the current campaign.
The 38-year-old has long insisted that he’ll stay with the team for the 2024 season and beyond with he and team principal Toto Wolff claiming that the new deal is extremely close and that only a few minor details need ironing out before the contract can be announced.
Despite these claims, Hamilton and Mercedes have yet to announce the renewal of their partnership, with rumours circling that the seven-time world champion is eyeing up a move to Ferrari, who are looking to upgrade on Carlos Sainz as they seek to end their World Championship drought.
