Las Vegas GP named ‘worst track ever’ as F1 fans get virtual glimpse of circuit

Formula 1 fans have been given their first glimpse of the Las Vegas Grand Prix circuit – and they are not impressed.

In 2022, F1 announced Sin City will be hosting F1 races as the third US race in a season after Austin and Miami. F1 were granted long-term permission by the Clark County Commission to host the race every year until 2032.

There has been very eager anticipation into what the track would look like, with Vegas last hosting a GP in 1982. However, organisers will now have to hope the actual race itself goes down better than the first glimpse.

While the track is yet to have been officially released, F1 lovers were able to have a look at what it will look like on the new F1 '23 video game. If the track is similar in the flesh then it may not go down well with supporters.

“This is genuinely one of the worst tracks ever made,” one furious supporter began. “I understand that they tried to fit in as many landmarks as possible, but come on. All the streets and possible corners you could come up with and this is the best they could do? Game looks great but this track is trash.

A second wrote: “About as memorable as the last 8 American Street circuits and the next 8 to follow it,” before a third dissenter even caught the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in their crossfire, writing: “Rubbish. It's just another Baku, which is also rubbish.”

The track shares many similarities to the Monaco Grand Prix. There is glamour, razzle-dazzle and pizazz. But from a racing point of view, the tracks are generally very narrow with many tight bends.

Overtaking will certainly prove to be very difficult, assuming the racetrack is how it is in the game.

With Lewis Hamilton struggling and Max Verstappen racking up victories, even when he begins as far down as P9, this F1 campaign is threatening to become another one horse race.

Organisers in Vegas will be hoping things become tighter as they are the penultimate event of the F1 campaign. If Verstappen continues to stretch his already significant 14-point lead, with Sergio Perez currently in second, then the race could be a dead rubber from a championship point of view.
