Hamilton ridiculed for trying to upset Red Bull as FIA respond to ‘rule breach’

Lewis Hamilton has been mocked over his ‘ludicrous’ proposal ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend. The Mercedes star is yet to win a race since the 2021 season and is finding it an impossible task to keep up with Max Verstappen and his Red Bull machinery.

Red Bull have dominated the sport since new regulations were introduced at the end of the 2021 season and Hamilton feels it’s unfair that they’re already allowed to work on next year’s car despite being miles ahead of the rest of the field. The Brit suggested last month that the FIA should introduce a date for when teams can begin work on next season’s car to prevent one team from keeping or getting a big advantage.

However, Ex-Williams manager and F1 analyst Pete Windsor has laughed off Hamilton’s idea. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Windsor said: “I think it was a joke to upset Red Bull, it must be. If Hamilton meant that, it really was the most ludicrous thing I’ve ever heard.” Meanwhile, the FIA have insisted reports claiming that up to three teams have broken 2022 cost cap rules are ‘inaccurate’.

Sky Sports’ Craig Slater also claimed that the FIA have told him they’re still going through the ‘auditing process’ and that it is scheduled to be concluded in the ‘coming weeks’ while any ‘potential breaches at this stage are unfounded’.
