George Russell trolled by two Norris and Albon over Lewis Hamilton battle

George Russell was mocked by Lando Norris and Alex Albon over his Formula One intra-team battle with team-mate Lewis Hamilton. Tensions between their Silver Arrows pair appeared to come to the boil at the Japanese Grand Prix – and Russell’s fellow F1 stars have poked fun at him as he looks to become the main man at Mercedes.

Russell is trailing Hamilton in the World Championship leaderboard, sitting in eighth position. An upturn in form for Hamilton sees him in third place behind Red Bull stars Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

Norris and Albon have now poked fun at Russell’s struggles in an amusing clip. The F1 stars had to answer questions, with one wondering which of the three were likeliest to win the World Championship.

“Depends where Lando signs to,” Williams driver Albon quipped before concluding: “I reckon it has to be you, George. You’re in a bit of a dip right now, the team. Oh, I feel awkward saying that as we’re here in Mercedes.”

Russell hit back: “I mean, I take pride that you say we’re in a dip, yet we’re P2 in the Championship. It’s a bit of a…”

“Are you still P2 in the Championship?” Albon interjected. But Russell responded: “Mate we’re 40 points ahead of P3!”

Albon joked: “Yeah, Lewis must be doing such a good job.” Russell laughed and added: “Yeah, to be fair, he’s well ahead of me in the Championship this year.”

The Briton and Hamilton were both frustrated with Mercedes’ strategy in Japan. The younger driver questioned whether Hamilton wanted to battle with each other or with the other drivers.

Former Williams boss Peter Winsdor believes the dynamic between the pair is imbalanced and that Hamilton preferred having Valtteri Bottas as a team-mate.

“The point is this should also be seen in the context of Lewis telling Toto endlessly to keep Valtteri, ‘He’s exactly the right guy’, and [Toto saying] ‘No no, no, we’ve got to have the next generation, George is the next generation, and quicker’,” Windsor said on his YouTube channel.

“I blame a lot of the press for that because a lot of them were saying ‘Oh, you know Valtteri isn’t quick enough, George is quicker’ and, of course, then he won that race.

“I just come back to my thing of… if you’ve got Lewis, you don’t actually need George. If you’ve got George, you don’t need Lewis. It’s an imbalanced team, always has been, always will be, and that is the problem with it.
