Daniel Ricciardo smashes space hopper into Lando Norris’ face in F1 driver clash

A space-hopper race between McLaren Formula One drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo descended into chaos ahead of the British Grand Prix.

The pair went head-to-head at Silverstone in just one of several space-hopper races organised by Sky Sports on Thursday before the race weekend. Norris’ slip meant the Australian got the better start and took the lead early on.

But the 22-year-old Brit took matters into his own hands by picking up his space-hopper and trying to run to the finish line. That was until Ricciardo hilariously decided to pick up his space-hopper and launch it into his teammate's face.

Commentator David Croft was left in stitches as an apologetic Ricciardo rushed to the younger driver’s aid. Norris himself struggled to hold in the laughter as he held his stinging face.

Norris yelled: "I can't see!” as Ricciardo said "sorry" between his giggling. The Aussie prankster then added: "You know when you do something and you realise you probably shouldn't have done it? It was too late."

Things are expected to get far more serious on the track this weekend as Norris looks to land a big result at his home Grand Prix. The McLaren ace is currently seventh in the drivers’ standings, while Ricciardo’s persistent struggles with the car have left him 13th on just 15 points.

Ricciardo’s future was called into question when McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown hinted “mechanisms” exist within his contract which could see him be removed earlier than his 2024 contract expiry. But the 32-year-old himself has dismissed talks of his departure.

He said ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix last month: “The clarity is there for us moving forward, my contract is clear with the team until the end of next year, I’m fully committed, I’ve certainly voiced that.

"My results, I want them to be better, I know they can be better, and I want to enjoy that success with the team. I’m not going to sit back in 13th and be happy with that or complacent with that, not at all.”
