Christian Horner told Sergio Perez replacement as fan-favourite race may return

With the start of the Qatar Grand Prix weekend now one week away, fans can start looking forward to an action-packed trip to the Lusail Circuit as Max Verstappen and Red Bull look to clinch the Drivers’ Championship title.

Verstappen needs to score a total of just three points across the sprint race and the Grand Prix to confirm his third successive world title, although a poor weekend for Sergio Perez would also confirm the Dutchman’s triumph.

While Verstappen will be the headline maker in Qatar next weekend, Checo is still suffering from the fallout of his dismal weekend at Suzuka, in which he crashed twice and picked up two time penalties.

The 33-year-old is contracted with Red Bull for 2024, but the debate about his future continues to rage on with few parties indicating that the Milton Keynes-based team plan to retain Perez beyond then.

India hoping for F1 return

F1 could be set for a sensational return to the Buddh International Circuit with The Times of India revealing that the sport is in talks for a return to South Asia.

This news comes off the back of MotoGP’s maiden trip to the circuit with the world’s premier motorbike racing series set to race at Buddh until 2029.

According to the report, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority has revealed that talks are planned to go ahead with the aim of bringing India back onto the F1 calendar in 2025.

F1 first made its way to India back in 2011 with the track relatively popular among fans and drivers, but political issues meant that the event only ran for three years with the partnership ending early in 2013.
