Horner opens up on Red Bull's 'barren spell' amid Mercedes dominance

Christian Horner has issued a sly dig at former F1 title rival Toto Wolff as tensions increase in the paddock. Horner stressed Wolff and Mercedes may not be prepared for 2026 rules changes with work now being started on getting the new regulations right.

It comes after Wolff suggested Horner was “frightened” that their power-units were not up to scratch. Meanwhile, fans were hit by a tyre in a dramatic accident at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Organisers confirmed everyone was okay after the incident which happened on Thursday at the iconic hillclimb.

Horner aims dig at Wolff over F1 rule changes

Christian Horner has called out Toto Wolff and Mercedes in a thinly-veiled dig at his former title rival.

Horner stressed he was “unsure” how prepared Mercedes would be for the 2026 regulation changes due to Wolff’s background.

Red Bull is in the process of building their own engines for 2026 when complex new rules changes come into effect.

Horner said: “I’m not sure how close Toto is to his engine business, because he’s a customer, he’s not involved in HPP’s business formally.”

Fans hit by tyre in horror accident

Spectators were hit by a loose wheel which flew into the crowd in a freak accident at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Organisers at the famous hillclimb confirmed no one was injured after the dramatic incident on day one of the event.

A tyre on Jaguar MK1 came loose while taking on the circuit and jumped over the hay bale fencing into the crowd.

A statement read: “Following the incident on the hillclimb we’re pleased to confirm that there were no serious injuries and those involved were able to go back to enjoying the event.”
