Bernie Ecclestone accused of being ‘afraid’ as Lewis Hamilton responds to Massa
Felipe Massa has hit out at Bernie Ecclestone for his latest comments on the Brazilian’s attempts to overturn the result of the 2008 World Championship. Massa sought legal advice after Ecclestone claimed a few months ago that he was made aware about Nelson Piquet Jr’s intentional crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix but opted against taking any action that same year.
The Brazilian ended up missing out on a points finish in that race while eventual championship winner Hamilton finished third. Massa has long pointed to the Singapore Grand Prix as being the point where he was robbed of a world title and he’s now begun legal action against the FIA and F1.
Ecclestone has since backtracked on his claims earlier this year, insisting he doesn’t remember giving the interview. And the former F1 supremo has now called out Massa for lodging a lawsuit, insisting it’s “all about money” for the former Ferrari driver.
The war of words between the two has continued with Massa now issuing a retort of his own. “Ecclestone only decided to say something after he saw the seriousness of our case and that we will not accept this stain on the sport,” Massa told Brazil’s edition of Motorsport.com.

“He is probably afraid of everything that will come to light with the lawsuits. It doesn’t matter. As we have said several times, our objective is the trophy.
“We continue our battle for justice in sport.” But Hamilton is not concerning himself with what Massa is trying to do as the Briton is solely focused on the here and now.
“If that’s the direction Felipe wants to go in, that’s his decision, but I prefer not to focus on the past,” Hamilton said.

“Whether it’s 15 years ago, two years ago, three days ago, I’m just interested in the present and focused on helping my team this week.”
It was reported this week that Massa’s lawyers sent preservation notices to Ferrari, Alpine (Formerly Renault), Pat Symonds, Flavio Briatore and ING.
It requires all parties involved to ensure any document or evidence relating to the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix not be destroyed or tampered with.
