Alpine suffered a disastrous Hungarian Grand Prix with both cars being wiped out on the very first lap.
As the pack roared down to the first turn after lights out, Zhou Guanyu hit Yuki Tsunoda. That caused a chain reaction which saw the Alpines of Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon suffer race-ending damage.
Gasly was eliminated immediately while Ocon limped around to the pits with damage to the rear of his car. It was a second successive double retirement for the beleaguered Enstone-based squad.
The team's Twitter account simply posted: "A racing incident means both cars have retired from the #HungarianGP." Meanwhile, the team did not secure much sympathy on social media.

“OMG, Alpine has literally the worst luck in the world,” bemoaned one fan. A second said: “Alpine gotta be the worst team on the grid this year.”
A third added: “Gasly has had the worst luck. Terrible stuff for Alpine.” A fourth commented: “Alpine just casually having their worst grand prix ever.” One resigned fan simply said: "Gasly will never have luck, never."

Speaking on Sky Sports commentary, Martin Brundle felt the Alpine drivers were both blameless. He said: "Gasly left enough room on the inside. As Ocon got hit, he then had to counter-steer and that took him straight into the side of his teammate."

Ahead of the race in Hungary, they were down in sixth in the constructors' standing, 12 points behind resurgent McLaren, who are suddenly fighting near the front following a string of upgrades.
