Avalanche’s Nazem Kadri named NHL first star of the week – The Denver Post

Nazem Kadri continues to gain accolades in his breakout season.

The 31-year-old forward on Monday was named the NHL’s first star of the week after leading the Avalanche to a perfect 4-0 record from Jan. 24-30.

Kadri led the NHL with eight points (three goals and five assists) during that span, including three game-winning goals. On the season, he is third in the league in points (59) and second in assists (41). His assists total is already a career high and he is two points short of matching his best of 61 in the 2016-17 season.

He will be making his first all-star game appearance after he was voted as the “Last Man In” by the fans. In November, he was named the NHL’s third star of the month.

Kadri is the fifth Avs player to earn one of the NHL’s weekly honors this season. Gabe Landeskog has a first star earlier this month, while third-star recognitions were awarded to Cale Makar (twice) and Devon Toews earlier in the season.

Carolina goaltender Frederik Andersen was named second star while Flames left winger Johnny Gaudreau earned the third-star nod.
