Zach Wilson has already sent New York Jets new boy Aaron Rodgers a warning, with old “hell” comments from earlier this year resurfacing. The Jets signed Wilson, 23, two years ago with the second overall pick from the NFL Draft.
However, fast forward to the present day and Wilson looks highly likely to be replaced as a starter by veteran quarterback Rodgers, 39, a four-time NFL MVP and a Super Bowl winner, after compiling an 8-14 record as a starter. The Jets are hoping Rodgers’ star power can rub off on them and fire the NFL franchise to it’s first Super Bowl since the late 60s.
Despite losing his spot, Wilson will be up for a fight to reclaim it, with comments from January this year resurfacing which now seem particularly relevant to Rodgers. “I’m gonna make that dude’s life hell in practice every day,” Wilson previously said when asked about being drafted to a team with a veteran quarterback.
“I’m gonna go out there and do my best to show the coaches that I deserve to be there. It’s not in a negative way, it’s in a positive way. It’s making everybody else better, hopefully.”
Rodgers doesn’t seem to mind Wilson’s previous fighting talk, liking a Twitter post with the quote recently. It is believed that Rodgers’ presence could help Wilson in the long run.
General manager Joe Douglas said on Tuesday: “I feel like this is going to be a great thing for Zach. And I spoke to you guys at the combine and Zach’s ceiling is unlimited.

“No one works harder, no one loves ball more than Zach Wilson. And him having the opportunity to really shadow and be with a first-ballot, Hall of Fame quarterback every day, every hour he’s in the building, that’s a great opportunity and a great experience.”
The confirmation of the Jets’ trade for Rodgers brought an end to a month of speculation. For Rodgers, the Packers will now move up two spots in the first round of Thursday’s NFL Draft, taking the Jets’ No13 overall pick while sending back the No15 slot. Also in the deal, the Packers will receive a second-round pick and a sixth-round selection this year as well as a conditional 2024 second-round pick that becomes a first if Rodgers plays 65 per cent of the offensive snaps this season.
