Where is ‘College GameDay’ this week? Location, schedule, guest picker for Week 9 on ESPN

“College GameDay” will preview its first all-Big Ten matchup of the year on Saturday, and it picked a great one to feature: the top-10, undefeated rivalry matchup between No. 6 Michigan and No. 8 Michigan State.

Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, David Pollack and Co. will set up shop outside Spartan Stadium in East Lansing for the game, which is not only the first-ever undefeated matchup in this series, but also has implications on both the Big Ten championship and College Football Playoff races. The winner of Saturday’s game will remain in the driver’s seat in the Big Ten East division alongside Ohio State — the loser will need some help to make it to Indianapolis.

This meeting looks to be a matchup of elite defenses, as Michigan ranks second nationally in scoring defense (14.3 points per game) and 11th in total defense (299 yards per game). Michigan State ranks 19th in scoring defense (18.7 ppg). But the unit has given up more than 400 yards per game, including 285.4 per game through the air.

To that end, look for coach Jim Harbaugh to get quarterback Cade McNamara more involved. He has completed 63 percent of his passes for 1,115 yards and five touchdowns to one interception on the year. On the other side, look for Michigan State coach Mel Tucker to dial up heavy doses of running back Kenneth Gainwell III, who is second in the FBS with 997 rushing yards on the season. He also has nine touchowns on the season.

Here’s everything you need to know as “College GameDay” makes its way to Spaartan Stadium

Where is ‘College GameDay’ location for Week 9?

“GameDay” is making its ninth appearance in East Lansing on Saturday, where the Spartans have gone 3-5 as part of the featured matchup. That also includes a 1-1 record vs. Michigan, who won the first such matchup in 1997, 23-7, before the Spartans returned the favor 34-31 in 1999.

This will be Michigan State’s 15th time on the show; it has gone 8-6 in its previous matchups. Michigan, meanwhile, has appeared 33 times, going 16-16 in its matchups.

Surprisingly, this is only the third time the Spartans and Wolverines have matched up on “GameDay.” After the ’99 meeting, the teams didn’t meet up again until 2015: the infamous “Miracle at Michigan,” which saw Jalen Watts-Jackson return a botched punt into the end zone for the go-ahead score in the closing seconds.

‘College GameDay’ schedule on ESPN

Davis, Herbstreit, Howard and Pollack will preview Week 9 action live from Spartan Stadium starting at 9 a.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on Fox, with kickoff set for noon ET.

“GameDay” pickings are mostly slim again in Week 10, with the most likely option being No. 18 Auburn at No. 14 Texas A&M, based on the most recent rankings. The Tigers are 5-2 and the Aggies as of the completion of Week 8, but both are still in the hunt for the SEC West division title considering Alabama’s loss to the Aggies earlier this season.

Another potential matchup is unranked LSU at No. 3 Alabama — the last meeting with Ed Orgeron leading the Tigers. Another intriguing matchup is the meeting between 6-2 Liberty and No. 10 Ole Miss. It will be Hugh Freeze’s first return to Oxford following his resignation in 2017. It could also be a great quarterback battle between the Flames’ Malik Willis and Rebels’ Matt Corral.
