Villanova’s Daniel Smith throws mind-bending touchdown, gets Patrick Mahomes’ attention
Is this what “The Matrix” was about?
If so, then Villanova quarterback Daniel Smith clearly took the red pill (or was it the blue pill?) before the Wildcats’ Colonial Athletic Association game vs. Delaware on Saturday.
With his team trailing by 14 points in the fourth quarter, Smith scrambled to his right and was taken down by a defender — but not before somehow defying physics and getting a pass out to tight end Charlie Gilroy, who secured the ball for six.
That still only counts for one score, though, and the Wildcats would eventually be pecked by the Blue Hens, losing 27-20.
Still, throwing a TD pass that crazy gets eyeballs on you, and no eyes were wider than those of Patrick Mahomes, football’s reigning king of the ridiculous play.
“Man that is some crazy stuff,” Mahomes tweeted with two laughing emojis and a thumbs up.
Could this do wonders for Smith’s NFL Draft prospects? Well, probably not. But it can’t hurt to have a ridiculous TD pass in your highlight reel, and hey, getting the Mahomes stamp of approval is cool, too.
CAA football, baby.
