Texas Tech men’s basketball coach Chris Beard ejected following epic tirade

Texas Tech men's basketball coach Chris Beard went absolutely ballistic in an epic tirade that saw him get ejected from the game late in the Red Raiders' loss to West Virginia.

Beard, a two-time Big 12 coach of the year who guided Texas Tech to the 2019 national championship game, began his meltdown by screaming at the refs with his No. 8 Red Raiders down 77-71 with 23.5 seconds to go against the No. 14 Mountaineers. During his demonstration, he dropped to the floor and animatedly performed a time-out gesture, seemingly in response to what Beard viewed as the refs missing a timeout call made by a WVU player.

That move earned Beard his ejection.

After going over to fist-bump WVU coach Bob Huggins, Beard then lit into the referee crew again. Multiple Texas Tech assistants got in Beard's way, trying to calm the coach down.

He eventually ran off the floor, much to the delight of the crowd of 4,250 on hand (per ESPN).

"There was no message there, I just thought there was still time from a coaching standpoint, you got to fight for your players," Beard said postgame of his tirade.
