Sources: Jets acquiring RB Robinson from Jags
The New York Jets have agreed to acquire running back James Robinson from the Jacksonville Jaguars, sources told ESPN on Monday, confirming a report by NFL Network.
The Jets are sending a sixth-round pick to Jacksonville that could become a fifth-rounder as part of the trade, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Jets’ deal for Robinson comes on the heels of rookie running back Breece Hall, a leading candidate for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, suffering a season-ending ACL tear and meniscus injury during New York’s 16-9 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
Robinson played only 12 snaps on Sunday against the New York Giants, with the bulk of Jacksonville’s carries going to Travis Etienne. Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said Monday that was due to Robinson dealing with some soreness in his knees and “nothing about him as a running back.”
Hall ranks seventh in the NFL with 681 yards from scrimmage. With him on the field, the Jets averaged 5.6 yards per rush, which would be the top mark in the league, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. With Hall off the field, they’ve averaged only 3.6, which would rank 29th.
The Jets (5-2) are on a four-game winning streak and face the New England Patriots on Sunday in a key AFC East matchup at MetLife Stadium.
