Saquon Barkley injury update: Giants running back out vs. Cowboys with ankle injury

Saquon Barkley’s third and fourth years in the NFL haven’t quite gone as well as his first and second, as the Giants running back’s injury woes continue.

Barkley, who missed most of last season with a torn ACL, is out for the rest of the Giants’ Week 5 contest against Dallas after sustaining what looked like a fairly serious ankle injury.

Barkley had two carries for 9 yards before that play sent him to the sidelines. He was eventually carted off the field and ruled out for the rest of the game.

Barkley was second on the Giants in rushing this year with 186 yards in four games, two behind team leader quarterback Daniel Jones. The Giants’ next leading rusher is Devontae Booker, who has seven carries for 22 yards in three games.

The second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Penn State, Barkley rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons; he was a Pro-Bowler and the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2018.
