Kickin’ It with Kiz: Is it too early in NBA season to say the Nuggets are in a heap of trouble?

Nuggets management watching other NBA teams make moves to improve while standing pat is no surprise. It’s the same way Denver plays defense on the court.

— Wolfy, master of the Wyo-verse

Kiz: The Brooklyn Nets get James Harden, who can be a load at the 3-point line or the buffet line. The Milwaukee Bucks went for it all right now, getting Jrue Holiday for a king’s ransom. With LeBron James playing general manager, the defending champion Lakers got better. The Nuggets? They stood by and let it all be. They chased away Jerami Grant, who wanted a bigger role after sitting behind an obviously inferior Paul Millsap for much of last season. Sure, it’s still early, but Nikola Jokic’s back might give out if the newcomers don’t start carrying their weight. So when is next year for our local NBA team? 2023? The 12th of Never?

Well, maybe by 2023 we’ll be able to watch the Nuggets on TV. Thanks a lot, Comcast and Altitude TV.

— Omar, Denver

Kiz: Hey, I feel your pain. But settling a tiff between rich guys is above my pay grade. So afraid I cannot help you. I am merely left to wonder: Might the slow-out-of-the-gate Nuggets be suffering from the Curse of Comcast?

You’re hilarious, Kiz. You really know how to stir stuff up. You’re wrong 80% of the time, but always entertaining.

— W.F., wordsmith

Kiz: Well, I’ll take that as a compliment. The way I figure it, if I can bat .200, it’s probably good enough for me to be the starting catcher for that sorry excuse for a baseball team in LoDo.

Elway’s restaurant is overpriced and bourgeoisie. Of course, pagan-minded Broncos fans don’t mind. Don’t go to Elway’s for a $40 breakfast, because you will find the best at Norma’s in New York City. When the pandemic subsides and you want to get cultured, try it out.

— Rich, gourmand

Kiz: Well, perhaps Elway will have more time now to refine the menu to your liking. He might even hire you as a consultant to develop the new $39 Bourgeoisie Burger (with bacon for a $7 upcharge). BTW: The best breakfast in the world is a freshly baked almond croissant, eaten on a ski lift in Val d’Isere, France. Got get up early and move fast if you want to brekky with me, pal.

Kiz, it doesn’t completely matter who the Broncos quarterback is. You need an offensive line to be able to give the QB time to find a receiver or hand off to someone in the back field.

— Dusty, student of the game

Kiz: OK, in your quest to build a champion, I will let you take any offensive lineman in the NFL. I’m going to start with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Wanna bet who gets to the Super Bowl first?

And today’s parting shot is a double-barrel piece of advice to new Broncos general manager George Paton and those bickering Bowlen kids.

I hope this new general manager has the common sense to keep Phillip Lindsay. I can’t help but think when Elway got Melvin Gordon it began to take its toll. P.S.: Sell the team and start anew.
