Jerry Jeudy injury update: Broncos WR suffers high ankle sprain vs. Giants
The Broncos were dealt a heavy blow during their season opener Sunday against the Giants.
Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter when he was tackled by Giants cornerback James Bradberry. Jeudy was carted off the field.
According to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero, X-rays were negative and the team is reporting he has a high ankle sprain.
Video of the injury shows Jeudy’s ankle rolling under Bradberry as the tackle is made.
Jeudy was injured after he ran a crossing route with his team facing a third-and-7 from the Giants’ 33. He caught Teddy Bridgewater’s pass for 20 yards and a first down. The Broncos went on to score a touchdown on the drive.
Jeudy had a breakout season as a rookie with the Broncos in 2020 after Denver drafted him 15th overall out of Alabama. He hauled in 52 receptions for 856 yards with three touchdowns. Before he left the game Sunday, he had caught six passes for 72 yards.
The loss of Jeudy will put more pressure on receivers like Tim Patrick, who led the team with six touchdown receptions a year ago, and KJ Hamler, who was fourth on the team with 381 receiving yards in 2020 while adding three scores.
