Giants’ Joe Judge explains why he kept Daniel Jones in for entire blowout loss vs. Rams
The Giants scored first against the Rams and led 3-0 after the first quarter in Week 6. Things completely fell apart for the Giants after that, however. The Rams scored the next 38 points of the game, including 28 in the second quarter, and turned their trip to New York into a laugher.
Daniel Jones played every offensive snap for the Giants on Sunday afternoon despite the blowout and his poor performance. Jones completed 29 of 51 pass attempts for 242 yards, but he struggled immensely with turnovers in the loss. He threw three interceptions and lost a fumble; those miscues allowed the Rams to accumulate 21 points off turnovers.

Why didn’t the Giants give backup Mike Glennon some late reps with the game well out of reach? Coach Joe Judge had a simple explanation for his decision after the game.
“We’re going to compete for 60 minutes,” Judge said to reporters when asked why Jones remained in the game despite a 35-point deficit.
There’s nothing quite like a good old coaching cliche after a loss. Jones well may be the best quarterback on the Giants’ roster, but he didn’t play like it against the Rams. Perhaps Judge and the Giants coaching staff just wanted to have Jones play a full game after he missed the second half of last week’s game after landing in the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Of course, it didn’t help Jones’ cause that they were short on receiver talent. Kenny Golladay (knee) and Darius Slayton (hamstring) were both out for this game while Kadarius Toney and CJ Board exited the game with injuries of their own.
Still, this wasn’t an encouraging performance by Jones or the Giants, though Judge isn’t letting the Giants’ 38-11 loss get him down.
“There’s a lot of ball left to be played.,” Judge said of the 1-5 Giants.
